伯纳德·詹姆斯·泰森（Bernard James Tyson）于1959年1月20日出生在加利福尼亚州瓦列霍（Vallejo），家庭主持人比利·让·泰森（Billie Jean Tyson）和部长摩西·泰森（Moses Tyson）。1977年从Vallejo高中毕业后，伯纳德（Bernard）在旧金山的金门大学（Golden Gate University）入学。当伯纳德（Bernard）担任Vallejo综合医院的行政分析师时，他对医疗保健的热情始于上大学。他获得了卫生服务管理学士学位和金门大学的卫生服务管理硕士学位。他获得了哈佛大学的高级领导证书。

伯纳德（Bernard）担任美国心脏协会和销售大通董事会成员。He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, served as deputy chairman of the Americas of the International Federation of Health Plans, was the former chair of America’s Health Insurance Plans, and a steward of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Health and Healthcare. He was also a member of The Business Council and chair of the Bay Area Council.
