HONOLULU —The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit health care transparency advocate, has awarded Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center its 14th straight A grade in the spring 2022Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. The Hospital Safety Grade, administered in the spring and fall every year, measures the overall performance of nearly 3,000 hospitals nationwide in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. Moanalua Medical Center is also honored with the Straight A distinction for receiving 5 or more consecutive A grades.
The Hospital Safety Score utilizes hospital performance data collected by national health care organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Scores are calculated by using more than 30 national safety measures. The information is publicly available in hospital data related to patient care, medication errors, and infection prevention and released as a free resource to help patients and their families make informed health care decisions. Approximately 1 out of every 3 hospitals in the U.S. have received an A grade in the spring 2022 report.
